Why all of us who are employed should give thanks…

This post is primarily for those waiting to graduate or have graduated recently. For those who are already established, it may still bode well to check it out.

After reading this post at Scatterbox by Steven Silvers I was sufficiently depressed and thankful at the same time. (I love his blog, he always tells it like it is.)

With all that has gone on in the world and in our economy over the last year, we can no longer deny that the communications world is changing, especially for those in PR and marketing.

Take Silvers’ advice and find a niche, become an expert. This is no time to be a generalist. Hopefully there is something you love that you can grab onto tightly and become THEgo-to” person for that subject.

Do as much reading as you can about professional development and marketing yourself. The point is to become indispensable.

I know it is the holidays and everyone is supposed to be happy, but the sad truth is that come New Years many of us could be staring down the long bleak road of unemployment.

The economy will recover, but there is no way to know how long that process will take. So do yourself a favor and heed this advice: Hope for the best, but ALWAYS prepare for the worst.

Happy Holidays.
